Rollout

Marmot came to RedStitch with the challenge of launching a new lightweight synthetic sleeping bag exclusively at REI, with an aggressive timeline, an immovable launch date and many layers of approval required along the way. The custom fixtures needed to showcase the bag's unique features and benefits, while addressing the merchandising challenges of the product.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Early sketches feature plywood shelves and a single-sided bag display, taking aesthetic cues from REI's  simple, raw fixture package. Unlike most branded displays, this one needed to blend in. Due to its anticipated short lifespan, material usage was kept to a minimum, and the units were designed to be easily broken down and recycled.

“We are really excited about this design work. RedStitch did such a great job interpreting the right look and feel for REI stores!”

- Lisa Rockas, Project Manager
SDVM Fixture Team @ REI

Final concept renderings show simplified wire cradles for bags to be merchandised in their mesh storage sacks and a double-sided product display. The simple tube structure was designed to be as flexible as possible for adaptation to other types of products down the line.

Once the final design was approved, we prototyped the bag glorifier and storage fixtures in less than two weeks for review with Marmot at REI's headquarters. In addition to recycling requirements, shipping and setup efficiencies were critical.

Despite their size, the units were engineered to ship via UPS and to be assembled in under 30 minutes by one associate with a screwdriver. The entire program was produced domestically in just four weeks and delivered to stores to coincide with the launch - just in time for Black Friday!
